Load balancer Content Cache causing 404 errors

Hi,

I have a site that uses a content manager (Umbraco). I am seeing an issue where some people using my site cannot immediately see new content — while others can.

I suspect this is due to load balancing.

Is there anywhere to flag certain files for immediate replication? Or to only be retrieved for a specific server?

Unfortunately, there is not a way to have only certain files retrieved from a specific server in the pool of servers for your hosting plan. When you upload new files all of the files are replicated to all servers in the pool immediately. If you are not seeing the new content I would advise clearing your browser’s cache or trying an alternate browser.

Thanks for the reply Steve, but this is not a local browser cache issue.

From my browsers (I’ve tried multiple) I can retrieve the Url fine. For other users, some can and some cannot retrieve the url. The ones that cannot are getting 404 errors.

The content *is* most definitely there, however. I’ve tested with sites that retrieve content from various places around the internet. When running the url from around net, the places that cannot see the url get a 404. Other locations retrieve it fine and report a performance number. This is most definitely a server caching/load balancing issue that I need to find a work-around for, not a local browser caching issue.

Here is an example:

This url: http://motorcycle-vermont.com/events/brandon-riders-poker-run/

Reports a 404 in the Facebook Debugger (http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug )

Yet, I can get a performance result from here: http://internetsupervision.com/scripts/urlcheck/check.aspx from 6 of the 8 sites.

This tells me that it’s probably become some are getting a cached result; or at least this is the symptom of the problem I am trying to solve.

Any ideas?

When reviewing the Debugger tool you provided I am seeing a Response Code 200 indicating no issues. Additionally the performance tool you provided also shows a normal result at this time. For an additional review into your hosting server I would advise contacting our Support Team and reference this thread for proper handling.

Hi, i am having the same issue but this time my published content is visible only in random, i think that the content is not replicated to other machines
