Hi all,
I currently have a
Hosting – Shared – Deluxe – Linux
hosting plan with godaddy. I’m waiting on the change for java to be enabled to really test this out but does anyone know if I will be able to run a minecraft server from this hosting account?
Thanks,

We would need to know the exact requirements for the application to know for sure if it will work in a Shared hosting environment. However, reviewing the system requirements on the internet it appears that it does require an open port that is not allowed within shared hosting. If you need any special open ports you would need a Virtual Dedicated Server or Dedicated Server.

Is this something I would be able to purchase a-la-carte to my hosting or is this that port just not available with out the dedicated server?

You would not be able to add that port within shared hosting or have it opened even for an additional charge. You would need to purchase a Server to use any additional ports. Also based on what you are attempting to do a server would function better.

Lame, That’s the $70 a month or whatever option then that I would need? I’d be better off buying my own box at that price.

@TimL997,
Keep in mind that we have Virtual Dedicated options at a greater value that will allow for similar control of the hosting environment.

The port can be changed. What ports are allowed from shared hosting?
