Multiple websites under my Hosted Domain
nebner5508 said 1 year, 2 months ago:
My Hosting package says I have unlimited Websites. I can’t find any explanation of how to do this. I own 3 Domain names, one of which is currently hosted here. I have my main website there. I guess my question is really: How do I create multiple websites in my hosting package??

You can use the steps in this help article to add your other domains to your hosting account and specify which directory they should point to for the site to resolve:
Hosting Multiple Websites on Your Hosting Account
Once set up, all you need to do is upload your files to the correct directory.

One more question along the same line if you do not mind. I am making the assumption that the new website’s URL would then become: http://www.mymainhosteddomain.com/newwebsitefoldername/ Is that correct?
Thanks again

@nebner5508
Yes that is correct. The additional site can be accessed at either http://www.mymainhosteddomain.com/newwebsitefoldername/ or http://www.otherdomainname.com.

Thank you again Tim. I didn’t realize that it could be accessed as it’s own Domain. I thought it would just be a sub Domain. Cool!!

Still having a bit of a problem. Thought I had followed your helpful instructions to a “T” but it must have only been a t”. I have added a subdomain to my hosting account successfully and can load it when the URL is http://www.main_domain.com/sub_domain/ however, I am unable to access it when I use URL http://www.sub_domain.com When trying to point the sub_domain DNS to my hosting account, I have been modifying the the DNS pointer in the zone file editor to the same address as my Host account but this doesn’t work. After 24 hours, I am still getting the Domain not found message when I do a Google search for it. I am not sure what I am doing incorrectly and hope you can help yet again.
Thanks again,
Nick

I have a quick question for you to see if I understand the situation, can you access http://subdomain.domain.com (without the www)? If you can and also want to be able to add http://www.subdomain.domain.com then you should check out this thread:
The configuration provided by Nate D should work for you. If I’m misunderstanding please let me know and if you could post your actual domain and subdomain I can review the zone file if needed.

Hi Tim, Evidently, I am missing something completely here!! lol I might be reading your earlier answer incorrectly. My Hosted Domain is nicksbarndoor.com The subdomain I created is nicksbarn.com I can of course access my hosted domain at http://www.nicksbarndoor.com and the subdomain at http://www.nicksbarndoor.com/nicksbarn but it appears that I cannot access the subdomain as http://www.nicksbarn.com. From your previous answer, I thought that you said this was possible. Again, maybe I am mistaken or I am missing something completely. I would appreciate an additional help. I did read over the link you just sent but before I tried doing what it suggested, I just want to be sure that my understanding and basic configuration is correct so that I don’t compound the issue.
Thanks again,
Nick

@nebner5508
OK, I think I understand what is going on. You set up nicksbarn.com as a subdomain within your hosting account, effectively making nicksbarn.nicksbarndoor.com your subdomain (this seems to load properly so we know the files are in the right folder!).
What you were wanting to do is have nicksbarn.com load your site. This is exactly what I sent the initial help article to walk us through. After launching your Hosting Control Center, click on the Domains button at the top of the page or under the Settings tab you can navigate to Domain Management. This is where I think you went wrong, you probably click the link of your nicksbarndoor.com domain which takes you to add a subdomain. What we want to do now is not to click on the domain listed, but there should be a button in the top right to ‘Add Domain’. Here you can add nicksbarn.com and the folder will be ‘nicksbarn’.
Once this set up is complete, your site will resolve at nicksbarn.com and nicksbarndoor.com/nicksbarn. Let me know how this works out for you or if I need to clarify anything a little better for you.

I am saving all the info that you have sent but I need to clarify one thing. My intentions was to have nicksbarndoor as the main, hub or entry site (whatever you want to define it as) nicksbarn and another domain that I haven’t added yet, nicksbarnyard were to be subdomains of it. I expected that I would have to access them as maindomain/subdomain but something you said earlier led me to believe that the subdomains could also be accessed using http://www.subdomain_name.com when you said to point the subdomain to the main domain in the DNS setting.
I am totally confused now!!! lol

Just to add to what I responded a few minutes ago. I had thought that in order for a Domain to be addressable in and of itself, it had to be in it’s own hosting account otherwise it would always be addressed as a subdomain.

I’ve followed the instructions and mentioned above, however my main domain becomes inactive (goes back to Google Adsense) when I try to add a second domain. I’ve sent in a trouble ticket, anyone have a response here?
