MX Records w/ Web Hosting

I just purchased the Economy Web Hosting package and I’m a little unclear about a couple things. I’ve never used a godaddy web hosting service. With other web hosting services I’ve used, I entered my domain name. Then I updated the nameservers in the dns manager of whoever hosted my domain. After that I needed to update the mx records with my web host in order to use my email service. Is that how godaddy web hosting works as well?

Basically, I have my domain and email hosted with a different company. After I update the nameservers for my domain name, will I have the option to update the mx records here on godaddy? Will I need to? I just need to figure out how to set everything up with little to no downtime of the email service.

The answer is yes and no, just encase anyone else who reads this thread, will like to know the answer.

If your domain name is hosted at Godaddy, IE your NS point to Godaddy, you can manage your DNS records at Godaddy.

If your Name Servers point to a different DNS provider, you have to use them to manage your DNS.

Here’s a good video on Name Servers: http://www.unlocktheinbox.com/unlocktheinboxtv/6/
