We’ve recently received a bunch of PDF files from one of our users. These won’t preview on the wiki, though the files display fine in a separate browser window.

MediaWiki Extension:PdfHandler looks like a fine solution but requires either Xpdf or poppler-utils for the pdfinfo command. Neither seem to be available in the standard Deluxe Linux hosting installation.

Advice appreciated!

@gongmaster

Our shared hosting accounts do not support Xpdf or pdfinfo installed. If the application you wish to use requires these, you would either need to use an alternate application, or use a Virtual Dedicate Server so that you may install the required applications.

Most unsatisfactory. The only easy way, then, is to ask the user to rescan to another format and upload again. Not happy about that.

Not to appear too grumpy, but this is a collaborative wiki with no monetizatiom. Though it’s good to know solutions could be available, $30-40 a month for CentOS, plus the admin and setup time, is not a workable proposition. Certainly it is not painless to port wiki data between aps when it consumes your unpaid spare time.

Thanks anyway for the response.
