I run Windows on my computer so I naturally went with the Windows deluxe web hosting. I also got two domain names. I installed Wordpress on the main domain and it works just fine. So I added the other domain I got as a secondary domain in it’s own folder. I installed Wordpress and it seem like everything is working just fine.

That is until I try to make changes to Permalinks. I want to use the custom setting so I can use /%postname% but every time I try I get this error.

“Permalink structure updated. Remove write access on web.config file now!”

How do I fix this? It only happens on the secondary domain.

I’ve tried changing the permissions in the FTP file manager from Inherit to write and read and that doesn’t work.

There got to be a way to fix this?

Any help would be nice.

@tlskin

I have found that in a WordPress forum, users had to reset their permalinks after making the permissions update as well:

I fix the problem by switching to Linux hosting.

I do find that WordPress functions better on Linux plans, glad to hear you made the switch and it corrected your issue.

Can I use linux hosting even if I use windows on my comuputer?

@monica_p

Yes you can, the type of hosting you need depends on what kind of development language or database you might use with your website. Your home operating system will not affect which hosting account you choose.
