php5.ini in /web/conf/ directory needs some updates
glitchshot said 1 year, 3 months ago:
I have email enabled for cron jobs as I would like to be notified if one of my cron jobs results in error. How ever, I receive an email every time a script runs because of mistakes in the php5.ini file located in /web/conf/ directory.
Below is the message that shows up on ever email i get.
PHP Deprecated: Comments starting with ‘#’ are deprecated in /web/conf/php5.ini on line 1256 in Unknown on line 0
PHP Deprecated: Comments starting with ‘#’ are deprecated in /web/conf/php5.ini on line 1257 in Unknown on line 0
<b>Deprecated</b>: Directive ‘magic_quotes_gpc’ is deprecated in PHP 5.3 and greater in <b>Unknown</b> on line <b>0</b>
The first two errors can be corrected by changing the “#” to a “;” on line 1256 and 1257
Additionally the magic_quotes_gpc directive can be located on line 474.
I called technical support but received the sorry that is a global file that can only be changed if one were to submit a suggestion to the suggestion box. I would think that this would be more of a trouble ticket than a suggestion but hey, I dont get paid to answer the phone.
I was able to get rid of the message about the magic_quotes_gpc by setting magic_quotes_gpc = off in my local php5.ini file.
Thank you guys in advance for clearing this up and or offering any helpful suggstions.

@glitchshot Without being able to directly test these on your hosting plan, these are settings that you should be able to correct within your own settings. I would recommend contacting our live support team once again to have them review these errors on your site:

Is there a solution to this problem? I have the same issue with my cron jobs and I tried to talk with the support but they seem not to understand what’s happening. They keep telling me to change the PHP version to 5.2 even if in my account under the “Programming Languages” section it is clearly stated that “PHP 5.3 is your account default because it meets our stability and security requirements. PHP 5.2 is also available but isn’t actively supported.”
My guess is that some technical person from Godaddy should take a look at the /web/conf/php5.ini file and fix it so it will not throw any deprecated messages under PHP 5.3

I agree this is a problem for me too.
It would be nice to have this basic issue fixed as both posters above have explained.
It’s a 2 minute fix for the right person.
Us paying customers do not have access to this file.
I use some shell programs, and these warnings effect php cli output.

Same thing here. Please fix it. It takes literally no time.

Seems to still be a problem.

@squozebrain, @tinnnou, @tgeorge, @dragosholban,
Our apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this matter.
The error indicated @glitchshot actually just requires disabling the ‘magic_quotes_gpc’ which is a function that needs to be specified by yourself within the hosting account. We have a related thread in the forums below where other members have been discussing how to disable this through custom php5.ini files. You may want to refer to this information as it can assist you in correcting the matter:
