Hello everyone!! I am new here at godaddy!!
I would like to upload my website via ftp via dreamweaver to godaddy. I got al the information how to upload the website. I did everything correct to upload my website but I am getting an error message. Does any of you had a problem like this? And what can I do to make it work? (I already took all the steps via this link: http://help.godaddy.com/article/5005?isc=gdbb683) But it still does not work.
Thank you in advance!!
Charlotte

Hi Charlotte. What is the error message you are getting? Is this error coming up in dreamweaver?
Have you tried to upload files in a different FTP Client? I would try that to make sure the issue isn’t with your login information. My favorite FTP Client is FileZilla and it is free (http://filezilla-project.org/). You can also use Windows Explorer as well.

Welcome to the club you and all the rest of their customers,Everyone has these problems here at godaddy, there technical support is to put you on hold for a while, then state “check your code”.

Hello Matt thank you for you fast reply. To tell you the truth I don’t know much about uploading via filezilla. I have another host where I used to upload the files very easily via ftp via dreamweaver to the host. But I am going to try it with filezilla. Thanks I will let you know if it worked.

It tells me that I cannot connect to the host.. ??
Matt said 2 years, 11 months ago:
Hi Charlotte. I’m sorry you are still having issues. Here is another article which lists out what your user name and password should be when connecting via FTP. http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/96. I would try to get connected through FileZilla or another FTP client first. Once that is working then try Dreamweaver again.
With the “cannot connect to the host” sounds like it is a username/password issue that is not correct (reason recommended the article above). Please let me know if you still can’t get connected after checking the username/password and the host name.

Thanks a million!!!! It does work with filezilla!! I finally had the time to test it today. Strange that it doesn’t seem to work in dreamweaver. Because I used the same username and password in dreamweaver.

Glad FileZilla worked! That is strange that dreamweaver doesn’t though. I would just keep track of the article http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5005 (has users comments on the bottom of it). Unfortunately since it is a third-party product we do not endorse or directly support it.

Two suggestions for ftp on dreamweaver…
1 – In ‘remote Info’ make sure the FTP host lists the domain as http://www.whatever.com, without the protocol, i.e.; ftp://
2 – Try checking “Use passive Ftp”. The other 3 boxes should be unchecked (unless you are behind a firewall).
There should also be a Test button to test the connection. All this, btw, is in the Advanced tab of Site Settings in Dreamweaver. I use CS4 have many GD sites. Sometimes, though, DW FTP is very flaky, especially if you are using check-in/check out. I use it regularly though

@charlotte1978
It may be a difference between passive and active mode ftp. You may want to look for a “Use Passive FTP” setting in dreamweaver and change that.

FINALLY!!! Thanks Neauxware, your suggestions help me with Dreamweaver. Been ripping my hair out something serious for a while trying to get DW to connect to the GD server.
Great thread Charlotte1978!

i have two domain names. I was able to connect using Dreamweaver cs5 on one. But using exactly the same settings the other site would not connect with host.(error message said it could not find thermote host wich i put in as –mydomainname) i reviewed passwords and name repeatedly and changed the password just in case. the only difference in the two is the one i cannot get set up is the added “private setting” for the domain. Does this make the hosting information any different???
