I purchased a used domain named (also previously hosted with godaddy). I pointed the domain to my web hosting package. If I type the domain name in the address bar (www.thecountycrier.ca) I end up at my site. Perfect.

However, if I type that same domain name into google search, the OLD website link appears with a 404 page not found. My new site is nowhere to be found.

Is there any way to get rid of the old one? it appears as http://www.thecountycrier.ca/index and I do not want readers to go to that one by mistake.

@kt303,

Have you re-submitted the domain for Ranking and Review through Google?

The current information showing in Google’s search results does not update automatically with the active status of the domain. It would need to re-crawled before the status results provided in their search results are updated with your live site pages.

@kt303,

You would want to reach out to Google for details on submitting your domain to their search engine results. I also know there are several tutorials and Search Engine discussion forums that can be found through their own search results as well as through your own preferred search engine that can offer some additional insights into this regard.

If you are looking for a more automated solution to submitting your domain to Google as well as other search engines, you may be interested in looking in to our Search Engine Visibility services.
