Using Excel Spreadsheets on Website
NDebt4Ever said 2 years, 6 months ago:
Does Godaddy allow importing of data from MS Excel Spreadsheets on hosted Web Sites? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction of the requirements?
I have developed a web site locally that relies on importing of data from an Excel spreadsheet and it works fine on my local machine.
When I upload it to Godaddy, I get the following error whenever I try to do the import:
System.Data – The ‘Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0′ provider is not registered on the local machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jon

@ NDebt4Ever
Our hosting accounts do not support accessing information from an Excel Database. If you would like to store information like that, we recommend that you use a database. You can set up a MySQL, MS SQL, or Access database using our various Windows hosting accounts, however Grid-based Web Hosting does not support Access databases. If you have any other questions regarding your account, please feel free to contact our support teams at the following URL:

I already have a MSSQL database but some of the information needs to be updated via existing Excel spreadsheets. Rather than re-keying all the information in, I would like to import the source spreadsheets.

Hi Jon!
I don’t believe .XLS is registered as a proper MIME type for our hosting accounts. This article will walk you through configuring MIME types on a Linux account:
http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/375
And this article will walk you through it for Windows:

Hope this helps!

The link (http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/3821) you sent indicates that .xls is already configured as a supported MIME type. I still cannot open and read an Excel spreadsheet using my website hosted on Godaddy.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon!
Thank you for pointing that out to me! You’re right. Can you provide us the URL to your site where you’re having an issue so we can check it out?
Thanks!

I am having this issue too. Could you please let me know if the suggested solution below is acceptable for Godaddy shared hosting?
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/238625/microsoft-ace-oledb-12-0-provider-is-not-registered
Steps to fix:
Basically, if you’re on a 64-bit machine, IIS 7 is not (by default) serving 32-bit apps, which the database engine operates on. So here is exactly what you do:
1) ensure that the 2007 database engine is installed, this can be downloaded at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en
2) open IIS7 manager, and open the Application Pools area. On the right sidebar, you will see an option that says “Set application pool defaults”. Click it, and a window will pop up with the options.
3) the second field down, which says ‘Enable 32-bit applications’ is probably set to FALSE by default. Simply click where it says ‘false’ to change it to ‘true’.
4) Restart your app pool (you can do this by hitting RECYCLE instead of STOP then START, which will also work).
5) done, and your error message will go away.

You will not have this kind of access on a shared hosting environment. If you require this, you would need to consider a virtual dedicated or dedicated server.

If you need MS Access, you’ll want to check out our Legacy hosting accounts. You can view those plans here:

I need to upload an excel file (.xlsx), read and extract it to my database.
How could you support me?

@ehsan_sol
You can import a CSV file into a MS SQL database, but not a .XLSX file. If you are using Easy Database, you can use our Excel Add-in to update your data tables through your Excel spreadsheet.

You would not be able to import a .XLS or .XLSX file into your MS SQL or MySQL database. As I stated in my previous response, you can import a .CSV file.
