I need help in getting started. I am creating a new Wordpress site and hosting it at an existing live web site that I created by uploading all the HTML pages. I am nervous of starting, any words of advice.

@buds,

If this is your first time working with WordPress, you may wan to review the information covered in the following article below:

Thanks Christopher. I read the article and will give it a try. Should I first delete all the HTML and jpg files I currently have for the current site I have at the URL(www.miralopv.com) before I install Wordpress? I have redirected the URL (miralopv.com) to a mirror site already (www.miralo.biz). And second, why would I not want to install Wordpress in the root directory and not a sub directory? Thanks BudS

@buds,

Since you are forwarding the domain to miralo.biz, you are more than welcome to remove the existing HTML and image files from the hosting plan before beginning your WordPress site. I would recommend making a backup of these files before removing them, in case you decide to go back to them later.

As for where to install WordPress, its actually up to your own preference. But generally, most WordPress users want the WordPress pages to automatically come up via the domain URL (IE http://www.miralopv.com) and not through a URL specifying the subfolder (IE http://www.miralopv.com/subfolder). A Root install defaults to the domain directly without the requirement of a subfolder in the URL path that users visit.

I need some good advice again. I do have a Wordpress site in a subfolder off my main site. (www.miralopv.com/wordpress) It is time for me to move it to my root directory and I have reviewed the article http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/6869/moving-your-wordpress-site-to-a-new-directory?locale=en

I am a little nervous about it so I would like to review what I need to do. First delete my current web site files off of the root. Second move WP-admin, WP-content, WP-includes, and 22 files from the subfolder to the root. Step 3, change the site address and the wp address, fix permalinks, and fix images and hyperlinks. Step 4, remove the folder and content of the sub folder.

Is there any thing I am missing or overlooking? Thanks Bud
