Wordpress site is down (timing out) half the time
tmains said 1 year ago:
Hello: Why do I continually get “timed out” errors when trying to access my Wordpress site, both in the admin panel and as a visitor? It has been happening for quite a while now, since the start actually- sometimes I can access the site and sometimes I can’t. Also, when running GoDaddy Diagnostics on this site I often get errors under the “Accessing Your Website” heading. I will have to change hosts if this isn’t resolved. Thank you.

What’s the URL of your site so we can take a closer look at what’s happening?

I was not able to duplicate any slowness or time outs when accessing your site at this time. However, upon review of your site, I did notice that it appears you are running WordPress on a Windows server. If you are not using any Windows specific technologies, such as ASP.NET, you may want to consider switching to a Linux hosting plan. PHP generally runs betting on Linux hosting plans as opposed to Windows ones. Information on changing your hosting plan Operating System can be reviewed in this article:

Indeed, the Linux Hosting preference is WAY FASTER than the Windows Hosting preference. I learned that when I first got my domain and hosting account with GoDaddy about three years ago. I changed my server preference as soon as I saw the slowness of my page loading. It doesn’t matter if you have unlimited bandwidth, it depends on the server (Linux vs. Windows) that you choose. Good lesson.

Hi christianh ,
Same is happening with me. I do not know what is the problem. I am also running worpress on my site- http://www.greedynet.com and it is down often saying browser errors like ” server has timed out” or “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.” As you said in your reply that “tmains” is having trouble because he has windows hosting and he should switch on linux hosting but why I am experiencing this problem when I have Linux hosting and installed wordpress which go daddy supports very well.
Any suggestions will be really appreciated. I am fed up with this downtime issue.

Dear ajeetmish02,
Good question, and make sure you post in this thread when you find out the answer because I just installed WordPress on a blank domain in order to build.
Question: Was your original server Linux, or did you change it from Windows at all during the course of your building?
Respectfully,

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions on this.

When I was taking a look at your site, I found that there were 81 Requests. It seems that the majority of the requests were coming from scripts relating to your template. I also noticed several requests to external servers that were causing delays as well. You may want to also want to review this diagnostic tool provided by Google for ways to optimize your site:

Glad I was able to help. If you switch to Linux, please follow up and let us know if you find that the performance is better for you.

Our website is timing out when we update a page & when people are trying to register for our site. In fact , 75% of the time when I save a page it times out, then I immediately save it again & it works. The folks trying to access our account through registering are just getting time out errors.
the site is mindstepsinc.com
Help would be appreciated. I called GoDaddy last week but didn’t get any resolution.

When I was just browsing your site, I didn’t notice any slowness or other issues. If you are only encountering issues in on particular section of your site, there might be a WordPress plugin that is causing conflicts with that particular section. You may want to try temporarily disabling a few plugins at a time to see if that alleviates the errors you described.
