I have been having the same issue with a site (1890aea.org).

The form on this page:

http://1890aea.org/index.php/upcoming-events/aea-system-wide-conference-2012/2012-aea-systemwide-conference-registration/

Will timeout on submit if it is inactive for more than two minutes. I have tried modifying php5.ini, and changing my cache settings in the cms (concrete5). I even removed the captcha thinking it may be the root of the problem. Alas, nothing has solved this issue. It started late last week after the form had been active for a week or more without any timeout issues..

If there is anything I can do on my end with code, settings, etc PLEASE let me know.

If this is a symptom of the elCheapo shared linux hosting, PLEASE let me know.

PLEASE HELP!

@fvsuag,

I have tested the live form page and was not able to duplicate any time out errors. The form was processed immediately.

If you are seeing the timeouts occur intermittently, I would recommend reaching out to our Live Support via phone while the timeout error is occurring so we can investigate the matter further.

I try the trick told up
ob_start(); // At the beginning of the page
set_time_limit(0); // At the beginning of the page
ob_flush(); // At the end of the page
this been working two time, the third one I got the same message Your request timed out. Please retry the request.
It is really bad and i am not in Hong kong but in Spain and last week I was in Moscow with the same problem.
Please tell us if there is an issue or we need to migrate somewhere else.

@thierbox,

Can you please provide the domain name you are encountering the timeout errors through?

hello Baillee I’m new at this and I’m having this error when I tried to connect my site to the goddady server ” An FTP error occurred – cannot make connection to host.
No response from the server. This may be due to one or more of the following reason:

-Accessing the server requires proxy settings that aren’t properly set.
please verify that the proxy settings in the site category of the prferences dialog box are properly set,
and that the use proxy option in the site definition dialog box is selected.

-the server may be accepting only passive mode or only active mode.
Toggling the “use Passive FTP” checkbox may help you establish a connection.
-If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please select “Use IPv6transfer mode”checkbox in the Advanced
site definition dialog.
-Your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data. Please disable it to see if it makes a difference.
-It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP port (21). if you need to specify a non-standard port, enter the port
number after the host name separated by a colon”:”

Can add one more to this.
Get the error frequently in http://rufustech.com/mantis/
This is, as seen, one of the standard packages, so starting manipulating php files as a works around isn’t a good solution.
I don’t think it is a true timeout though, as when I get it, I typically get it immediately when requesting something. When not getting it, scripts can run many seconds. But when I get the error it’s within a second, likely without any execution at all.

@martinezroofer,

Have you verified your FTP client settings as outlined in the instructions provided in the following article?:

Uploading Files to Your Website (FTP)

If you are still encountering issues with FTP access after verifying these settings, I would need you to please respond with the domain you are attempting to FTP to?

@mattz,

Have you been able to workout this issue? As I was just testing the domain and confirming DNS settings to be resolving to our hosting services, I was not able to duplicate the timeout error you had indicated.

If you were still encountering this error message, could you provide more details on how you are encountering this? Is there a specific page being visited that generates this error?

@denpet,

I am also not able to duplicate issues visiting your own URL provided. The login page instantly resolves without any error or timeout. I am also able to setup a test login without any scripts reporting a timeout error.

You mentioned that the errors appear intermittent. Have these occurred often at a specific time of day? If so, it may be best to run a trace on your domain when it occurs and then reach out to our Live Support via phone so we can further investigate the matter.
