Disappointing Web Application
Miizel said 2 years, 6 months ago:
Am I the only one that finds website tonight completely clumbsy to work with? Very disappointed at this point, i’ve spent over three hours trying to put my logo on my web template and it looks horrible. So far it appears that this web application works great if you are going to just add text if you need to make a modification other than what is provided within the template, just forget about it because its time consuming and looks horrible. I got a few more hours left in me to give this thing a chance, if i have not luck i want my money back!

I completely agree with Miizel. I have probably put in about 24 hours of useless time trying to get my pages looking good. I have come to the conclusion that once my trial is up i am going to switch to a much better web hosting plan. I came to this conclusion after spending 2 and a half hours trying to put a text box in certain place but when ever i drop it, it auto moves it to either a header or footer. Obviously this shows there are some serious issues that go daddy needs to deal with in there next web hosting plan.

Well, I agree with Dave here.. It can be a little rough at the beginning but once you got the hang of it there’s little which WT cannot do.
And well; if the generated code isn’t what you want then you can always click on the ‘html’ option (while editing a page section this can be found at the lower left corner of the editing section) and then manually edit the generated HTML yourself.
The only caveats I’ve found so far were all related. SO basically a font block which closing section kinda got in my way and moved along my texts. So when I wanted to start a list I got some odd looking markers.
But apart from that…
Adding your own logo. Not sure how you did it, but what really helped for me (even though I didn’t really try very hard on my website) was simply downloading the original logo (so when the site with the original shows simply right click and “save picture”) and then changing this to reflect whatever I wanted on my website.
This will ensure that your new logo will use the exact same dimensions as the original logo. And /that/ will make sure that you avoid ickyness like (for example) unwanted stretching or such.
Not sure if this applies to your issue(s), but that’s what went wrong with my site when I started messing with the logo.
Hope this might give you guys some ideas..

I agree entirely! Most useless program I have ever worked with.If support has to lead you around on a long distance land line to make it happen, it hardly is a do it yourself. Finally got some pics into the blue box but can’t move them around in the box!

I agree, used a few other programs before, all very easy to work with. This one is the most frusttrating ever!
MelsiG said 2 years, 6 months ago:
I just finished my site after working on it for about 3 weeks or so. It was very frustrating. Definitely not as easy as GoDaddy portrays it to be, and consider my myself a little tech-savvy. I thought using the templates would make it easier, but I was wrong. The editing and many features are pretty limited (I would say antiquated… like 1998 or something). The copy and paste from Word is 100% useless, leaving unnecessary spaces between every line and fonts transfer back a lot larger than they should… impossible to correct unless you start over! The image gallery is depressing, and I couldn’t even see have the images when I check by category – it goes blank halfway down. I don’t know, I thought that GoDaddy being such a large and reliable company would offer a better Website building application. I still like them, and I’ll keep my other services with them, but I won’t keep this site for too long, I think.

I am also new to this and not finding it super intuitive. This may seem like a stupid question, but do I have to use one of the sample template designs or can I just start with a blank slate? If I use one of the established template designs, am I able to change the picture that comes with it (i.e. can I change the picture of a guy looking at his wrist watch with a picture of something else)?

Nevermind, figured it out.

I am also very frustrated using Website Tonight – thought it was be easy – have wasted the whole day trying to get 2 pages right – with no success – even after contacting the technical support (which I got cut off from both times).. I am still no further advanced .. I am at the end of my tether and I am very nearly ready to go elsewhere.

Not willing to start up a whole discussion but I would like to point out that WT will never be able to compete with a regular “website editing program” (stuff like, say, Dreamweaver or such).
Quite frankly I also get the feeling that it was never intended in such ways.
But… If you guys (MelsiG & DCP SA) don’t mind me asking: what exactly went wrong for you ?
Spending a whole day on something may sound obvious to you guys but to us outsiders its a rough guess. I’d really like to urge you to share whatever specifically was bothering you, and who knows; you may come out surprised after some time.
GD really listens to feature suggestions and specific complaints or hints.

WST is not intended to be like Dreamweaver….it is 99% template oriented. For creative people use to designing in photoshop or illustrator you will find WST frustrating….for those of you lacking in creativity you will love it. Because I was frustrated at the design i cancelled the WST and purchased a hosting program. Am now designing my site with Dreamweaver.
