I am trying to make my thumbnails much smaller so that more can be on a page. I tried the thumbnail option to fit 24? on a page but it didn’t change anything. Does it require more than the ‘save’ setting option to do so?

The most you can hold is 25 columns with 25 rows. This should resize the images to fit into that space. You need to double-click on the image collection, then select the columns and rows in Settings and click OK. You should not need to do anything additional.
