What types of contact lists should I avoid?

Date Submitted: 5-21-2013

You should not import contact lists purchased or received from a third-party. These types of contact lists violate the Express Email Marketing® agreement because the recipients don't know who you are, and they are likely report your email as "Spam." If this occurs, we disable your account.

When using purchased lists you can't prove the source and validity of these contacts. Using third-party lists might return undeliverable email messages, and your account can be disabled because of spamming.

Avoid using professional network groups like chamber of commerce and real estate associations as a way to harvest email addresses. If you join one of these groups, you would not want to be bombarded by emails from each member.

You should only import email addresses for Contacts you have had recent contact with, and gave you direct permission to send them email.

For more information on collecting contacts, see Tips for Collecting Email Addresses.
