Generating a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) - Covalent Fast Start 2.3.1

Follow the instructions below to generate a CSR for your website. When you have completed generating your CSR, cut/copy and paste it into the CSR field on the SSL certificate-request page.

To Generate Key Pair and Certificate Signing Request (CSR)

  1. Type in the following commands to start the Covalent SSL Certificate and Key Management Tool:
    cd /path to install/tools/bin
    and
    ./sslctl
  2. In the dialog box, choose Select Server Installation and click OK.
  3. Select the server that you want the certificate generated for.
  4. Select Generate Certificate and Key and click OK.
  5. Make sure that you have the correct server name.
  6. Select No for Proxy client certificate?; then click Next.
  7. Select 2048 as the number of bits in the key; then click Next.
  8. Enter your passphrase and click Next.
  9. Enter the requested distinguished name information for your CSR and click Next.
  10. Select Generate Certificate Signing Request.
  11. Select the server for which you wish the certificate to be created.
  12. Select No for Is this CSR being set to Verisign?; then click Next.
  13. Enter your pass phrase and click Next.
  14. Enter the requested information for your CSR and click Next.
  15. Specify where you want the CSR to be saved; then click Next. Covalent SSL will generate the CSR.
  16. Select Finish.
  17. Open the generated CSR file; then, using a plain-text editor, such as Windows Notepad, copy and paste the CSR into our online enrollment form.

NOTE: If you are requesting a Wildcard certificate, please add an asterisk (*) on the left side of the Common Name (e.g., "*.coolexample.com" or "www*.coolexample.com"). This will secure all subdomains of the Common Name.
