Creating Data Widgets with Easy Database for Websites

Date Submitted: 2-1-2013

Easy Database for Websites offers four different JavaScript-based widgets to let your website's visitors interact with your data:

  • Search & Filter — Visitors can search for data in your data table. For example, a set of data visitors might search to find particular items, such as a store's inventory.
  • Data Grid — Visitors can only see data in your data table and not search for it. For example, a set of data a visitor only needs to view, such as a restaurant's menu.
  • Data Entry — Visitors can enter data into a form, and the data is stored in your data table. For example, a set of data a visitor provides to you, such as a hotel reservation or a request for a quote.
  • Image Gallery — Visitors can view a gallery of images. Use it to create a photo gallery on your website. Supported image types include JPG, JPEG, TIF, PNG, and GIF.

To embed widgets on your website you must be able to enter the widget's JavaScript in to your website's coding.

To Create a Widget

  1. Log in to your Easy Database for Websites account.
  2. Go to the Widgets tab.
  3. Click Create Widget.
  4. Enter a Widget Name.
  5. From the Data Table menu, select the data table for the widget to use.
  6. Select the type of widget you want to use.
  7. Click Next.

A preview of your widget displays. Use the provided JavaScript-based Embed Code to display the widget on your website.

To make widgets private, see Adding Privacy to Easy Database for Websites Widgets.

If you use Website Builder, you easily embed the widget's JavaScript in your website. For more information, see Adding Easy Database Widgets to Website Builder.

If you do not use Website Builder:
You must enter the JavaScript in your website's code. You can download the files from your hosting account, copy and paste the Embed Code in your Web page's code, and then upload the modified file. For more information, see Uploading Files to Your Website (FTP). Your hosting account must also have the PHP Add-on. For more information, see What is the PHP Add-on for Easy Database for Websites?.

You can also customize your widget's appearance. For more information, see Customizing Widgets in Easy Database for Websites.
